Welcome to Grace Photography and Design

Updated: Sep 13, 2023

Who am I?

My name is Hayley Grace Hutchinson! Hopefully, I am already your photographer or will be one day! Grace Photography and Design is named for myself and my one and only daughter, Mila Grace. I just feel that it sounds better than Hayley Photography. I hope I chose correctly ... if not, it's a bit too late to change it now!!

About me, but short and sweet: I have worked with children almost my entire life as a babysitter, nanny, daycare teacher and curriculum coordinator, Mom, and elementary school teacher. I have four children (14, 10, 10, 3) with one more on the way. My fifth and final baby is due November 20th. I will write a blog to reveal their name <3 after I do their newborn session sometime after they are born! I grew up in Vancouver and the North Shore, but now live in Langley. I played many sports competitively when I was young, but now I watch my children play and compete in their sports (soccer, American football, swimming).

If there is something more you want to know, comment or send a message and I will write a follow-up blog one day! Thank you so much for being here!

What to expect?

This blog is a space for me to share my photography journey with my clients. It is also a space where I can highlight my favourite sessions and give client tips for success on their big day! Oh, and the most fun part will be sharing contest winners and NEW mini-sessions!

I will treat this blog as a professional diary!

What is my mission?

When I think of my mission statement and my purpose, I believe they're irrevocably intertwined. So to explain, I will start with this question: Why did I start photography? I have had a passion for photography since Grade 9 and I have always needed a creative outlet for my mental and soulful health! However, I never had the family support, confidence, or financial means to actually take the plunge and delve into this safely kept passion. Fast forward a whole bunch of years ... I was just about to turn 39 and was stuck in my bedroom with COVID-19 for a week with a lot of time for self-reflection. I decided that it was time. It was now or never, for me, with photography ... and ... here I am!

With a general passion for photography and a need to provide for my family since putting my elementary teaching days on hold, I am experimenting with light (studio and natural), learning about the various types of photography, and finding more confidence in my artistic style. Looking back at this blog 365 days from now I hope to see positive growth in life and in art!

Right now, my largest passion in photography is indoor studio newborn sessions and outdoor sunset family and children portraiture! That being said, I find a love of creating concepts and sets for my seasonal mini-sessions as well!

I strive to learn about my clients, work together, and work to slow down so I can see subtle moments that are worth remembering and stories that are worth telling. I promise to create timeless keepsakes to last a lifetime!

Passion + Family Need + Creative Outlet + Unifying Visions = Timeless Moments Captured

Have a Happy Day, From my Family to Yours

“What I like most about photography is the moment that you can’t anticipate: You have to be constantly watching for it, ready to welcome the unexpected.” – Martine Franck

This quote epitomizes what I love about the art of photography. Often photographers will give prompts like, "Tell mommy a secret," but we are not actually looking to snap a photo of the act of "telling a secret," but we are looking to capture the genuine interactions before and after this prompt! Photographers learn to expect to capture moments of unexpectedness and this creates genuine moments and images worthy of display!

Please leave a comment with what you want to read on this blog! I have a plan but I welcome feedback anytime! Subscribe to my website/blog to make sure you don't miss out on any new mini-sessions, updates, and tips and tricks!
